I received a copy of this book for honest review from Netgalley. I was presently surprised by this book. Walters writes in a way that captivates her readers from the very beginning. It is a typical YA paranormal romance story in a lot of ways: the main character is a beautiful girl who lacks confidence in her looks, a new mysterious boy catches her eye, and when strange things start to happen in the main character’s sleepy home town, she seems to be the only one to notice. Despite these cliche’s this book still manages to be unique in several ways. There is a good amount of focus on normal teenagers in this story, instead of being entirely focused on the paranormal. The author also succeeds in adding an element of suspense to the story that keeps the reader interested the whole way through.
There are a few problems with the book, but they are things that can be easily fixed by a quick edit. The book contains a few typos, and in the within the first few chapters a book by John Stienbeck is presented as a work by Ernest Hemingway (which was really the only thing about this book that induced a cringe).
Overall, the issues with this book are small, and I would definitely recommend it for any lover of YA paranormal romance. I would rate this book 7/10.
